Mural Pricing Information
A mural is a beautiful way to present your business, create a special room, or express yourself or your organization. A mural is more than just a decoration, it is a piece of original artwork that transforms and becomes a living part of your space.
Pricing starts at $1000 for mural work and $250 for window art, and will ultimately quote according to the appropriation of the space and design complexity. Overall cost can range on average between $30 and $80 per square foot. No two projects are the same and there are many factors that contribute to where your project will align with in this estimated range, some are also above this price scale and some below.
After your initial contact we will set-up a virtual or in-person consultation to meet you, see the space and learn more about your vision. We will take measurements and photos as well as discuss the quoting process. After the information is gathered a detailed project proposal and mood board(s) will be presented, and in specific cases, a rough digital mock up provided.
Specific conceptual design and edit work is something that is completed once a contract has been established. With nearly twenty years in the business of creating art for private and public clients, I find that the integrity of the artwork, time necessitated, and intellectual property are best preserved this way.
A 50% deposit and signed contract is required to begin the official design work and edit process.
Considerations and options:
the design process of the artwork. Each mural commission is designed by hand according to any input and ideas the customer may have. Sometimes those ideas start with a varying degree of information (“something with flowers and bright colors” or “Hibiscus in pink and vining pothos with a lavender background”, other times they can start with a feeling the customer wants conveyed, (“happy, peaceful.”). Traditionally I present sketch options of varying detail and work with the customer to sculpt those ideas into a final design plan. With the final design plan selected, three editing sessions are included in the overall cost, exceeding three does incur additional charges. A color palette is selected during this time as well.
the detail of the artwork. Designs vary in detail. If your design is high detail with lots of intricate details requiring more time and supplies, or if your design encompasses low or mid range detail, the price per square foot will reflect this.
the logistics of the location. Is the area where the mural is to be painted in an easy to access location? Is it an interior or exterior mural? Is it available to paint during business hours? Will additional equipment be needed to access the space, i.e. scaffolding or lift?
residential or commercial. Is this mural for home or commercial use? Interior home murals rarely if ever need to be sealed. Commercial interior murals in low traffic areas (restaurants, etc.) also rarely need to be sealed. Commercial interior murals in mid to high traffic (schools, daycares, etc.) areas may want to consider sealing. Commercial exterior mural work on concrete or MDO (sign board) do not need to be sealed as exterior grade paint is rated to withstand traffic and all nature of weather elements. Commercial exterior murals on wooden surface may need to be sealed depending on location and exposure.
wall preparation. Is the wall ready to be painted? Does it need priming or washing first? Exterior walls should be washed before painting to remove any grime or debris and assure paint will adhere properly. Interior walls should be wiped down and free of dust and dirt. Does the wall need a colored base coat of paint before the mural can be painted? Is the ceiling part of the design?
exterior wall considerations. Is the wall clean and ready for paint? Is the wall concrete, brick, or wood? Concrete walls that are clean and ready are some of the easier murals to create outside. If the wall is wooden it sometimes requires priming the wall first, which is a service I provide and would reflect in the price.
creating for installation vs in place. There are times when a mural would need to be manually installed in a location vs painted on site. Is the surface material provided or would it need to be procured? Will equipment need to be rented in order to install the finished piece? The logistics in those situations are slightly more intensive and would be reflected in the price.
portable murals. A special event sometimes needs a special backdrop. Do you want to have a mural backdrop for your wedding or conference but are in a rented location? Portable murals are a great solution. They are painted on high quality plywood, with a custom wood stand, and I will deliver and set up to your location.
sidewalk art. Hopscotch, permanent entryway art, storefront walkway embellishments are all beautiful ways to upgrade your location when wall space is limited or unavailable. Painting concrete requires an extended time of dry weather and concrete specific paint.
FOR WINDOW ART. Window art can be a beautiful way to bring attention to your storefront for advertising or celebrating a special holiday. Window art costs vary based on a lot of the same elements as permanent mural work. How much detail is in the artwork, how big is the space, logistics and location? Window art can be temporary or can be left up long term but it is easily removed when it is time.
